SEA1442 Phase 5– Maritime Communication Modernisation
The SEA1442 project is focused on modernising the maritime wide area communication capabilities of the Royal Australian Navy. It aims to enhance communication interoperability, ensure secure information exchange, and support the requirements of Network Centric Warfare in the maritime environment.
What is SEA1442 doing:
- Modernising the maritime wide area communication systems of the Royal Australia Navy (RAN).
- Upgrading existing communications systems and introducing new, modern communications capabilities which keep pace with evolving technology.
- Establishing a robust communications and information exchange architecture to facilitate optimum communication and quality of life while at sea and alongside.
- Enhancing the communication interoperability between fleet units, joint and coalition partners and strategic headquarters.
- Providing advice on technical risk and engineering complexities associated with the project, and strategies to mitigate them.

- Ensure HMA Ships have a reliable, efficient and secure communication capability.
- To facilitate seamless communication and information exchange between naval units.
- Modernise and future proof the RAN’s maritime communication capabilities.
- Mitigate and address electromagnetic interference, which is crucial to maintaining the capabilities of key platform systems.

- Expert analysis of financial viability, cost models and other critical commercial matters
- Supporting the project’s stringent tender evaluation process and cost projections for the acquisition phase and throughout the project lifecycle
- Adoption of the current version of the Capability Costing Tool (CCT) from the Capability Costing Branch
